Additional Applications

Transcranial magnetic stimulation is currently FDA-approved for Major Depressive Disorder treatment only. However, research scientists are exploring its use in many other conditions, including autism, substance dependence, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, and more.

The pulses delivered in TMS Therapy have the ability to stimulate inactive parts of the brain, and inhibit or suppress overactive regions that may manifest as anxiety. TMS therapy shows promise for individuals who suffer from an anxiety disorder and have not benefited sufficiently from traditional approaches, such as medication and psychotherapy. It is also a safe, non-drug option with minimal side effects for those seeking alternative treatments.

Clinical trials are also being conducted to investigate the potential benefit of TMS for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Most of the data to date involves high functioning adults, however, the potential impact of TMS may be greater on younger individuals although TMS is only FDA-approved for adults aged 18 or older. One of the unique benefits of using TMS to treat autism is the ability to pair the treatment with more traditional behavioral approaches.

If you would like to explore alternative applications we are happy to work with you, but it is important to know that these are experimental and results will vary patient to patient. For a consultation, and more information about additional applications of TMS Therapy, please contact us.

I have suffered terribly with depression and anxiety for most of my life, since age 14. I have tried almost every medicine on the market, but they only patched things together, sort of. Finally, my friends found Dr. Yang and TMS for me. I was nervous to start it, but I am so glad I did. I have a real life now, a very good, full, happy life. Yay!

At TAO Institute, the philosophy, intention, and expertise, is about healing and growing, not just “sort of relieving” symptoms with meds that have lots of side effects. Everyone (at TAO Institute) is so friendly and gentle. They really care, and are honestly so happy when they see you getting better. They are comforting and patient.

The combination of the availability of the TMS machine, and all of the other treatments, such as acupuncture, nutrition, and the kindness of the staff, provided a holistic approach to healing.
